Amendment 27 cont.

Here is a short written out piece of the 27th amendment, there were not many good graphics that I wanted to share on my blog.

Amendment 27

No law, varying the compensation for the services of the Senators and Representatives, shall take effect, until an election of Representatives shall have intervened.

This information is from  http://constitutioncenter.org/constitution/the-amendments/amendment-27-limiting-congressional-pay-increases

This amendment notes that laws can not be passed until the representatives have gone over it.

Amendment 26 cont.

Here is an image of the youth promoting that they can vote after the 26th amendment.

Amendment 26 cont.

The child in this picture is clearly not 18 but the point is that he is too young, and the 26th amendment says that 18 year olds can vote.

Amendment 26

SECTION 1.

The right of citizens of the United States, who are 18 years of age or older, to vote, shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or any state on account of age.

SECTION 2.

The Congress shall have the power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

This information is from  http://www.law.cornell.edu/constitution/amendmentxxvi

This amendment gives the right to vote at the age of 18 because I guess the government thinks the age of 18 is when you can make your own rational decisions.

Amendment 25 cont.

This is a video done by students reenacting the Kennedy shooting for the 25th amendment.

Amendment 25 cont.

This is a picture of an empty presidents chair, luckily thanks to the 25th amendment we won't have to worry about finding a new president because the VP would take over.

Amendment 25

SECTION 1.

In case of the removal of the President from office or of his death or resignation, the Vice President shall become President.

SECTION 2.

Whenever there is a vacancy in the office of the Vice President, the President shall nominate a Vice President who shall take office upon confirmation by a majority vote of both Houses of Congress.

SECTION 3.

Whenever the President transmits to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives his written declaration that he is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, and until he transmits to them a written declaration to the contrary, such powers and duties shall be discharged by the Vice President as Acting President.

SECTION 4.

Whenever the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive departments or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall immediately assume the powers and duties of the office as Acting President.

This information is from  http://www.law.cornell.edu/constitution/amendmentxxv

This amendment gives direction for what would happen if the president were killed and if the vice president where killed also.

Amendment 24 cont.

Here is a picture of people protesting the poll tax before the 24th amendment.

Amendment 24 cont.

Here is a picture of a poll tax receipt which the 24th amendment banned.

The right of citizens of the United States to vote in any primary or other election for President or Vice President, for electors for President or Vice President, or for Senator or Representative in Congress, shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or any State by reason of failure to pay poll tax or other tax.

SECTION. 2. The Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

This is from  http://constitutioncenter.org/constitution/the-amendments/amendment-24-poll-tax-barred

This amendment made it where a person did not have to pay to vote, they did this so everyone had a fair chance at getting to vote.

Amendment 23 cont.

I choose this picture for the 23rd amendment because it is self explanatory and there are not many pictures on it.

Amendment 23

SECTION 1.

The District constituting the seat of government of the United States shall appoint in such manner as the Congress may direct:
A number of electors of President and Vice President equal to the whole number of Senators and Representatives in Congress to which the District would be entitled if it were a state, but in no event more than the least populous state; they shall be in addition to those appointed by the states, but they shall be considered, for the purposes of the election of President and Vice President, to be electors appointed by a state; and they shall meet in the District and perform such duties as provided by the twelfth article of amendment.

SECTION 2.

The Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

This is from  http://www.law.cornell.edu/constitution/amendmentxxiii

This amendment just notes the electors towards the senators, and the way the voting will occur.

Amendment 22 cont.

This is a picture of Obama "asking" for a third term but thanks to the 22nd amendment that will not be possible.

Amendment 22 cont.

This is a funny picture of Obama holding up #2terms like the rapper t-chains.

Amendment 22

No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once. But this article shall not apply to any person holding the office of President when this article was proposed by the Congress, and shall not prevent any person who may be holding the office of President, or acting as President, during the term within which this article becomes operative from holding the office of President or acting as President during the remainder of such term.

This information is from  http://www.law.cornell.edu/constitution/amendmentxxii

This amendment states that a president can go more than 2 terms, this is so we don't end up having a ruler instead of a president.

Amendment 21 cont.

This is a picture of men probably celebrating the end of the prohibition during the 21st amendment.

Amendment 21 cont.

Here is another sign of people protesting the prohibition after it was finally ended with the 21st amendment.

Amendment 21

This information is from  .albany.edu/~wm731882/21st_amendment_final.html

This amendment repealed the prohibition, which is good because no one was following the law anyway.

Amendment 20 cont.

This is a picture of Kennedy who was assassinated. This goes with the 20th amendment section 4.

Amendment 20 cont.

I choose to show this because it says "yes we have no leadership" but the 20th amendment seems to display the opposite. Talking about all of the terms our leadership has.

Amendment 20

SECTION 1.

The terms of the President and Vice President shall end at noon on the 20th day of January, and the terms of Senators and Representatives at noon on the 3d day of January, of the years in which such terms would have ended if this article had not been ratified; and the terms of their successors shall then begin.

This article shall be inoperative unless it shall have been ratified as an amendment to the Constitution by the legislatures of three-fourths of the several states within seven years from the date of its submission.

This information is from  http://www.law.cornell.edu/constitution/amendmentxx

This amendment gives dates for when presidency will end and begin and options for if the president were to die.

Amendment 19 cont.

I wanted to show this picture because it has everything to do with the 19th amendment and women's suffrage during these times.

Amendment 19 cont.

This is a picture of women during the time of the 19th amendment when they were allowed to vote.

Amendment 19

The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex.

Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.
 This information is from w.law.cornell.edu/constitution/amendmentxix

This amendment meant that women could now vote, this happened because of the women's suffrage.

Amendment 18 cont.

Here is a picture of Homer cheering to alcohol, there was an episode of The Simpsons that showcased the prohibition.

Amendment 18 cont.

This is a photo of people protesting the 18th amendment. The 18th amendment made alcohol illegal.

This amendment started the prohibition of alcohol people were not happy about this.

Amendment 17 cont.

Another picture going against the 17th amendment and how it is more of a problem than a solution to anything.

Amendment 17 cont.

I choose to show this shirt because almost everything I found on the internet was for repealing the 17th amendment. People don't like this amendment because they think they are not represented equally.

Amendment 17

The Senate of the United States shall be composed of two Senators from each state, elected by the people thereof, for six years; and each Senator shall have one vote. The electors in each state shall have the qualifications requisite for electors of the most numerous branch of the state legislatures.
When vacancies happen in the representation of any state in the Senate, the executive authority of such state shall issue writs of election to fill such vacancies: Provided, that the legislature of any state may empower the executive thereof to make temporary appointments until the people fill the vacancies by election as the legislature may direct.
This amendment shall not be so construed as to affect the election or term of any Senator chosen before it becomes valid as part of the Constitution.

This is from http://www.law.cornell.edu/constitution/amendmentxvii

This amendment meant that every state would have 2 senators.

Amendment 16 cont.

This picture is showing how small business men can easily go under with all the regulations and taxes that come with the 16th amendment.

Amendment 16 cont.

This is Uncle Sam telling you to pay your taxes which is enforced by the 16th amendment.

Amendment 16

The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several states, and without regard to any census or enumeration.

This amendment  means that the government can collect income taxes, what we do at the beginning of every year.

Amendment 15 cont.

This is showing a shirt of a man saying "Black folk must vote" going directly with the 15th amendment.

Amendment 15 cont.

This is showing that someone voted, like the stickers that people wear after they have voted thanks to the 15th amendment.

Amendment 15

SECTION 1.

The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude.

SECTION 2.

The Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

This amendment meant that african americans could vote.

Amendment 14 cont.

This picture is showing that these people were for the 14th amendment saying "let the deportation begin."

Amendment 14 cont.

This is a good picture because it shows a protest going on. It also states what the main focus is of the 14th amendment.

Amendment 14

SECTION 1.

SECTION 5.

The Congress shall have power to enforce, by appropriate legislation, the provisions of this article.

This information is from  http://www.law.cornell.edu/constitution/amendmentxiv

This amendment denied convicted felons of voting rights even after their sentence. But you could request to get these rights back.

Amendment 13 cont.

I am using this because I could not find anything else to show the 13th amendment.

Amendment 13 cont.

This is a drawing I found on the internet, that I feel like correlates to the 13th amendment. Showing that African Americans were free.

Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.

SECTION 2.

Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

This amendment is also very important because it freed the slaves.

Amendment 12 cont.

I choose this picture because it goes against the 12th amendment saying the president should be based on the amount of myspace friends not on something that actually matters.

Amendment 12 cont.

This video shows the way the votes work, this is good because a lot of people do not understand that 12th amendment.

Amendment 12

The Electors shall meet in their respective states and vote by ballot for President and Vice-President, one of whom, at least, shall not be an inhabitant of the same state with themselves; they shall name in their ballots the person voted for as President, and in distinct ballots the person voted for as Vice-President, and they shall make distinct lists of all persons voted for as President, and of all persons voted for as Vice-President, and of the number of votes for each, which lists they shall sign and certify, and transmit sealed to the seat of the government of the United States, directed to the President of the Senate; -- The President of the Senate shall, in the presence of the Senate and House of Representatives, open all the certificates and the votes shall then be counted; -- The person having the greatest number of votes for President, shall be the President, if such number be a majority of the whole number of Electors appointed; and if no person have such majority, then from the persons having the highest numbers not exceeding three on the list of those voted for as President, the House of Representatives shall choose immediately, by ballot, the President. This information is from http://constitutioncenter.org/constitution/the-amendments/amendment-12-choosing-the-president-vice-president

This amendment justifies that the president and vice president will be voted on separately.

Amendment 11 cont.

This picture is showing what the 11th amendment is telling, that people have the right to get involved.

Amendment 11 cont.

I choose this because it is showing that some people go against these amendments, I still think this is good even though it does not tell why they do not like the amendment.

Amendment 11

The judicial power of the United States shall not be construed to extend to any suit in law or equity, commenced or prosecuted against one of the United States by citizens of another state, or by citizens or subjects of any foreign state.

This information is from http://www.law.cornell.edu/constitution/amendmentxi

This is just an old looking document showing the tenth amendment, I like antiques that it why I choose this.

Amendment 10

The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

Amendment 8 cont.

I choose this because it represents the cruel and unusual punishment from the 8th amendment.

Amendment 8

Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted.

This amendment is important so that someone can't be charged 100,000 dollars are stealing a candy bar, and so that no cruel punishment is happening in the jails.

This was found http://www.law.cornell.edu/constitution/seventh_amendment

Amendment 6 cont.

I like this because it uses monopoly to get the point across about the speedy trial and how to could make a guilty person free.

Amendment 6 cont.

This picture shows an (impartial) jury that the 6th amendment explains.

Amendment 6

In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the state and district wherein the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the assistance of counsel for his defense.

This is from http://www.law.cornell.edu/constitution/sixth_amendment

This amendment is important so that people do not have to wait for long periods of time on a trial. So they can be guilty or innocence faster.

Amendment 5 cont.

I choose this because it shows that him pleading the fifth to something is part of his privacy.

This Information from: http://www.law.cornell.edu/constitution/fifth_amendment

This is my favorite amendment and I use the phrase "I plead the fifth" a lot. It just means that a person does not have to give out information prosecuting themselves in court.

Amendment 4 cont.

I choose this picture because it is funny and it is in the perfect place, right by the front door where a cop might try to break the 4th amendment.

Amendment 4 cont.

This picture shows police going against the 4th amendment by breaking down this door.

Amendment 4

Amendment 3 cont.

I used this cartoon to show that soldiers can not quarter in peoples home.

Amendment 3

No Soldier shall, in time of peace be quartered in any house, without the consent of the Owner, nor in time of war, but in a manner to be prescribed by law.

This information from: http://constitutioncenter.org/constitution/the-amendments/amendment-3-quartering-of-soldiers

This amendment is important so people feel that their homes are theirs and that the government can not just come in and take over the space with soldiers.

Amendment 2 cont.

I am using this picture because it displays that our government has guns everywhere while they are trying to take them above from us citizens.

Amendment 2 cont.

I used this shirt because it is funny and relates to the recent debate on Obama banning guns, and also relates to our 2nd amendment rights.
